Ex 104/ trying to satisfy all of you
Message de here4u posté le 12-03-2017 à 13:19:35 (S | E | F)
hello, dearest Friends and faithful workers!

Here’s our N° 104 in advance for the "weekend workers" and those of you who are champing at the bit…
We still have the traditional translations and, of course “Our Story” is back with a few different rules to make it easier to follow, for all of us…
This exercise is, of course, still a and the correction will be posted on Wednesday March 29th 2017. Don’t forget that you’re working side by side with THE FORCE.
I) Translate into English:
Maxwell 4.

II) Translate into French:
“ I, of course, kept shoving peas down my throat. The glares made me nervous, and every single pea made me want to throw up, but the magical image of that five dollar floated before me, and I finally gagged down every last one of them. My grandmother handed me five dollars with a flourish. My mother continued to glare in silence. And the episode ended. Or so I thought;
My grandmother left for Aunt Lillian’s a few weeks later. That night, at dinner my mother served two of my all-time favourite foods, meatloaf and mashed potatoes. Along with them came a big, steaming bowl of peas. She offered me some peas, and I, in the very last moments of my innocent youth, declined. My mother fixed me with a cold eye as she heaped a huge pile of peas onto my plate. Then came the words that were to haunt me for years.
“You ate them for money,“ she said. “You can eat them for love.”
Rick Beyer, True Tales of American Life.

III) “Our Story”. Merci Joe !

“Our Story”:
The zephyr ’s gentle breeze announces the return of the swallows to the old nests they left last winter… (Joe39- 19)

(You have to follow the given topic, but may, at any time, cleverly change it through your interventions and their translations into French. (You’re limited to 20 words, at most and cannot post twice on end). You’re given 6 chances to participate, BUT in order to post the first one, you have to have worked on the rest of the exercises (however little you have done…) and qualify it “In progress”. You’re not allowed to post beyond the third intervention before your exercise is “Ready for correction”.)

THE FORCE is with us! Show me that you're greater and greater...

READY TO BE CORRECTED

Hello Here4U
for this new exercise ! You're right, I was eager for this one. Fortunately, we can play 6 times during the fortnight I'm sure I'll use all my quota

I) Translate into English :
Let's not keep her waiting... It takes me one hour to get there ; tell her that I'm coming.

I'm glad to think she is no longer here to see how irresponsible and careless he has become. She would have never approved of what he has done. I think she knew he would get by as she understood how clever he was...

"I've lost everything ! I'm alone, without family or home, unemployed soon..." "Stop complaining and pull yourself together !"

A non-profit organization which generates EUR 1 million profit a year ! In this time of crisis, what is the world coming to ? -Big deal ! It has been thoroughly reinvested in the association to develop it !

Many underprivileged people are struggling (*) to make ends meet and go in search of a second job to supplement their incomes : it puts butter on their bread.

II) Translate into French:
“ I, of course, kept shoving peas down my throat. The glares made me nervous, and every single pea made me want to throw up, but the magical image of that five dollar floated before me, and I finally gagged down every last one of them. My grandmother handed me five dollars with a flourish. My mother continued to glare in silence. And the episode ended. Or so I thought;

Hi everyone !

Here's my try: Ready for correction
Thank you for this exercise.

Let’s not keep her waiting… I need one hour to go there ; tell her I am turning up.

I’m satisfied to think she’s no longer here to see how irresponsible and careless he has become. She would have never approved of what he has done. I believe she knew he would manage as she understood how smart he is.

« I’ve lost everything ! I’m alone, have neither family nor home left and unemployed soon… » « Stop complaining and pull yourself together ! »

A nonprofit organisation which clears EUR 1 million profit a year ! In these times of crisis, it’s an upside-down word. - Big deal ! The benefits have been directly plowed into the association to expand it.

So many underprivilegied people don’t get by on their salaries and go in search of a second job to supplement their pay : it allow them to add a little extra to the kitty.

II) “ I, of course, kept shoving peas down my throat. The glares made me nervous, and every single pea made me want to throw up, but the magical image of that five dollar floated before me, and I finally gagged down every last one of them. My grandmother handed me five dollars with a flourish. My mother continued to glare in silence. And the episode ended. Or so I thought;

Hello dear here4u.
Here is my exercise, READY TO BE CORRECTED

Exercise 104 – deadline March 29th
Let’s not keep her waiting… I need an hour to get there. Tell her I’m coming.
I'm glad to think she's no longer here to see how he's become irresponsible and careless. She would never have approved what he has done. I do think she was aware that he would extricate himself out, because she understood how clever he was.
I have lost everything! I’m alone, neither family nor home and jobless within a short time.
Then, stop complaining and pull yourself together!

Maxwell 4.
A non-profit organization that show up 1 million euros in profits per year! During these times of crisis, it’s the world upside down…….So big deal! The donations are being made to develop the association.

Maxwell 5.
Many disadvantaged people find it difficult live from hand to mouth and are searching for a second job to supplement their income: thus adding a little extra to the pot.

II) Translate into French:
“ I, of course, kept shoving peas down my throat. The glares made me nervous, and every single pea made me want to throw up, but the magical image of that five dollar floated before me, and I finally gagged down every last one of them. My grandmother handed me five dollars with a flourish. My mother continued to glare in silence. And the episode ended. Or so I thought;

Thank you very much dear friend.
I hope you have a pleasant weekend.
So long.

Hello Here4u,

I - Into English

1 – Don’t let her wait … I need one hour to get there : Tell her I’m coming now
2 – I’m glad to realize she is no longer here to see how irresponsible and casual he has become. She would never have approved of what he did. I’m sure she knew he could manage for she was aware of how brainy he was
3 – I’ve lost everything ! I’m alone, no family, no home and soon no job…” “Stop moaning and pull yourself together
4 – A non-profit-making association which shows 1 million profit a year ! In times of crisis whatever next…Big deal ! They gave them back to the association to develop it
5 – Many underprivileged can’t make ends meet and start looking for a second job to supplement their income : that’s put more bread on the table

II – Into French

I, of course kept shoving peas down my throat. The glares made me nervous and every single pea made me want to throw up, but the magical image of that five dollar floated before me, and I finally gagged down every last one of them. My grandmother handed me five dollars with a flourish. My mother continued to glare I silence. And the episode ended. Or so I thought. My grandmother left for Aunt Lilian’s a few weeks later. That night at dinner, my mother served two of my all-time favourite foods, meatloaf and mashed potatoes. Along with them came a big, steaming bowl of peas. She offered me some peas and I, in the very last moments of my innocent youth, declined. My mother fixed me with a cold eye as she heaped a huge pile of peas onto my plate. Then came the words that were to haunt me for years. “You ate them for money” she said, “you can eat them for love”.

I am pleased she is not here to watch how he has become, irresponsible and careless. She would have never approved what he has done. I think she knew that he was able to manage all alone, because she had understood how clever he was.

I have lost everything ! I am alone, without family, homeless, and soon, out of work...

A non-profit association which generates a profit of one million Euros per year !
it's a topsy-turvy world!
Big deal ! they have donated to this association for its development.

Many underprivileged people have difficulties to make ends meet, and go in search for a second extra job to supplement one's income. that puts butter on your bread !

BOUH !!! An angry mother! I did not like leeks when I was a little girl, but I had to eat them!!
Thank you for your last correction, et for the next.

Hello !

Hello Here4u, hello everyone,
It's always a pleasure to do these exercises.
Best regards.
ready for marking
Don’t let’s keep her waiting … It takes me one hour to get there ; do tell her I’m coming.

I’m happy to think she’s not here to see how irresponsible and lazy person he became. She would never approve what he did. I think she knew he would manage because she has understood how clever he was ...

« I lost everything ! I’m alone, without family nor at home, out of work, shortly ... » « Don’t complain and pull yourself together ! »

Maxwell 4.
A non profit association clearing a profit of one million euros a year ! At this time of crisis, The fleas are wagging the dog … - So big deal ! They transfered them to the association in order to develop it !

Maxwell 5.
Many disadvantaged people don’t manage to make ends meet and are seeking a second job in order to get some more money : it puts butter on your bread.

II) Translate into French:
“ I, of course, kept shoving peas down my throat. The glares made me nervous, and every single pea made me want to throw up, but the magical image of that five dollar floated before me, and I finally gagged down every last one of them. My grandmother handed me five dollars  with a flourish. My mother continued to glare in silence. And the episode ended. Or so I thought;

Moi, bien sûr, je continuai à me fourrer des pois dans la bouche. Les regards noirs me rendaient nerveux, et chaque petit pois me donnait la nausée, mais l’image magique de ces cinq dollars flottait devant moi, et finalement je les ingurgitai jusqu’au dernier. Ma grand-mère me tendit les cinq dollars d’un geste ample. Ma mère, en silence, restait furieuse. Ainsi se termina l’épisode. C’est du moins ce que je croyais ;

"Thank you for the scarf. My name is Ingrid Smith." "Nice to meet you. Max Smith, at your service."
Maxwell 7
How amaizing, we have the same name ! I come from Australia. May I ask you, where you are from? Have you ever been there before?
(Jo06)

Thank you again for this exercise
I wish you a nice busy week…

Our story…
The zephyr’s gentle breeze announces the return of the swallows to the old nests they left last winter...
- The snow melting on the mountain ; plants coming back to life, as well as people, walking around parks again...
- Lots of bees are buzzing around the blossoming cherry-trees, sucking the nectar of their gorgeous, attractive white blossoms.
- I remember the day when I fell in love with Max. It was the first day of Spring too.
- A hawk was circling, majestic, in the sky, uttering its strident cry repeatedly, searching perhaps, a partner for life.
- I was gazing at the blue sky when a handsome man approached: "Excuse me but you've lost your scarf."
- I looked at him, forgetting the scarf and mesmerized by his deep-sea blue eyes... When, not far-away, behind...
- A cat, standing behind the rosemary bush, was waiting for a chance to catch a blackbird searching for food.
- Hidden as well, a policeman made a sign to me to keep silent pointing at the blue-eyed man.
Dissimulé aussi, un policier me fit signe de me taire en désignant l’homme aux yeux bleus.
- Without having the time to get what happened, I saw the attractive man get caught and tackled to the ground.
- Inexplicably, I wasn't scared. I didn't feel he was guilty. I wanted to learn about his story.
Inexplicablement, je n'étais pas effrayée. Je ne l'imaginais pas coupable. Je voulais connaître son histoire.
- I heard, him uttering "Release me, I am your new superintendent, you are going to thwart my plan..."
- "At the station we don’t know anything about that. So let me check your Badge, ID and mandate, please."
- That's when I knew his name, age and address... Most surprisingly, unexpectedly, let me say he was the...

closest man to me : same age, same surname and same address ! How come we had never met in our building?!
It's amazing! Could he be my twin brother kidnapped at birth and this new unknown tenant in my building ?
"Sorry sir, we couldn't know." "It's OK. I'm keeping a close eye on this area in disguise."
"Désolé monsieur, on ne pouvait pas savoir". "Ca va. Je surveille de près cette zone incognito."

- No, never, but after Australia, where have you been ? May be we met each other during a trip ? tereda 1

- In fact, my last trip was in IRELAND, ten years ago, for my grand-mother's funeral. 16 - TEREDA 2

I am pleased with myself to believe she is no longer here to see how irresponsible and careless he has become . She would have never approved of what he has done. I like to think that she knew he would get by with that because she had understood how clever he was

"I have lost everything! I am alone , with no family , no home , and jobless ..soon " " Stop complaining and get yourself together "

Maxwell 5.
Many disadvantaged persons are faced with hard situation in making ends meet and obliged to go in search of a second part-time job to raise their earnings: that put some butter on the spinach

II) Translate into French:
? I, of course, kept shoving peas down my throat. The glares made me nervous, and every single pea made me want to throw up, but the magical image of that five dollar floated before me, and I finally gagged down every last one of them. My grandmother handed me five dollars with a flourish. My mother continued to glare in silence. And the episode ended. Or so I thought;
My grandmother left for Aunt Lillian's a few weeks later.
?You ate them for money,? she said. ?You can eat them for love.?

A chaque petits pois avalé l'envie me pris d'aller vomir .

Rick Beyer, True Tales of American Life.
