Ex 124/ gaining momentum
Message de here4u posté le 15-01-2018 à 18:46:11 (S | E | F)
Hello, Dear Friends
Voici votre nouvel exercice.

I)Translate into English:
MAXWELL !

II) Translate into French:
Everyone was always happy to meet Mr. Sam’s son. I was given innumerable smiles and pats on the head.
Once, when I was a bit older, I can remember driving with him down a street in Jersey City and seeing a boy wearing a T-shirt I had outgrown several months before. It was a very distinctive shirt, with a peculiar combination of yellow and blue stripes, and there was no question that this was the one that had been mine. Unaccountably, I was overcome with a feeling of shame.
Older still, at thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, I would sometimes go in with him to earn money working with carpenters, painters, and repair men.
Once, on an excruciatingly hot day in the middle of the summer, I was given the job of helping one of the men tar a roof. The man’s name was Joe Levine, and he was my father’s most trusted and reliable handyman.
Paul Auster, The Invention of Solitude.

III) PLAYING and WORKING WITH WORDS: Using THE 8 WORDS given below (the 2 verbs can be put in whatever tenses or forms you fancy, but MUST remain verbs !), 2 adjectives, 2 nouns and 2 link words, (you CANNOT change the nature of the words!) and the suitable punctuation, scratch your minds and create AN ONLY meaningful SENTENCE.
(You CANNOT use two or more compulsory words consecutively!) PLEASE, WHEN YOU WRITE YOUR SENTENCE, PUT CAPITALS TO THE COMPULSORY WORDS!
FREEDOM! Voici les éléments imposés cette fois :

to) WONDER – (to) SCRUB – MUTUAL – TEASING - (a) CLUMP - (a) LECTURER – WHATEVER – WHILE + un CONDITIONNEL PASSE –

IV) Don’t forget to go and help my poor helpless student on the thread « Rack your brains and help/ 14 », en ligne depuis avant-hier. Thanks a lot! You have THE FORCE.

My try forIII PLAYING and WORKING with WORDS: is ready for correction

Because of their MUTUAL lack of understanding, WHATEVER their academic ability, the students were making fun of the CLUMP of cells under the microscope and WHILE they WONDERED how to cope with it, the LECTURER would have SCRUBBED up well and would come up with a TEASING and challenging introduction. Paul Auster, The Invention of Solitude.

I know nothing about bridge loans but can we convert them into shares or rather into bonds ?

Everyone was always happy to meet Mr. Sam's son.
The man's name was Joe Levine, and he was my father's most trusted and reliable handyman.

Hello dear here4u,

My work is done,
and ready to be corrected, while my brain, overheated by the strain,is slightly smoking,on this dark evening of a winter day.

I)Translate into English:

When I find out the one who has committed this burglary, he will regret being born and having tried to break into my home, as well.
» « Ah ! Sacré Fred ! »
He brought me out a good one: I doubled up with laughter , I couldn’t stand it anymore ! It made me joyful! Ah, damned Fred !
4) Maxwell :
So much the worse for the verification. We start out from these numbers. He had only to answer on time.

Hello!

Hello my dear Here4u ! REALLY FINISHED !
It was very difficult to find this sentence ! Your lecturer made my brain crazy ! So I've found it !

Here is it :

This intelligent LECTURER answers to his CLUMP of students with a TEASING way, WHATEVER the subject may be difficult, he was SCRUBBING before talking about to, but WHILE he WOULD HAVE SPOKEN TO, he always WONDERS what their MUTUAL respect could be if he were a woman... ! 47 words.

Have a sweet Sunday !

Hello dear Friends!

I) Translate into English:

If we don’t pay off the bridging loan, Paterson is going to sell it off in shares/ bonds to the highest bidder. That’s what is going to happen. Look, if this company is going to be taken over/ bought into, I should do it./ If somebody is going to buy into this company, it should be me.

- un prêt relais= a bridging loan (GB)/ a bridge loan (US)

When I find out who did this break-in they’re going to wish they were never born or had never tried to break into my house.

- Un cambriolage = a burglary; to break into a house= entrer par effraction => a break-in.

» « Ah ! Sacré Fred ! »

He came out (on me) with a good one! I was in stitches, I couldn't take it anymore! It made my day!" "Ah! Good old Fred!"

- To come out with …/ to bring something up/ to let something out/
- être plié = être plié de rire : I was in stitches/ I was doubled up with laughter/
- Je n’en pouvais plus = I could’t do anymore!/ I’ve/'d had it!/ I couldn’t take anymore!/
- Combler = to satisfy someone/ to make my day/

Well! So much for the checking! Let’s start on/ with these figures. He should simply have answered in due time/ in good time.

- Tant pis pour = so much for…/ too bad for… /
Maxwell!

Once, on an excruciatingly hot day in the middle of the summer, I was given the job of helping one of the men tar a roof. The man’s name was Joe Levine, and he was my father’s most trusted and reliable handyman.
