Suddenly, one of his skis slipped down his back, tearing his ski suit. Anyone could see his underwear. (18 w)

Hardly had he arrived when the rabbit jumped away and fled into Snow White's cottage. She was cooking carrots ! (20 w)

Meanwhile, our dwarf's wife was yelling at him : "Again ?!! I'm not sewing your pants this time! " Hard day! (20 w)

Hello, Dear Friends !

BRAVO !

I) Translate into English:
As a saying goes you’ll spend the New Year the way you greeted it on/after New Year’s Eve.

- La Saint Sylvestre = December 31st.= New year’s Eve
- the way you spend New Year’s Eve, is the way you’ll spend the whole year.
- toute l’année = the whole year/ all year long
There ‘s a proverb saying that you’ll spend the New year in the same way as you spent New Year’s Eve; the same AS ; not the same AS…

I can’t manage to make New Year’s resolutions, since I can’t keep them. It’s always the same old story!

- Je ne parviens pas à prendre ...= I can’t manage to make/ I can’t succeed in making
- Parvenir à = to manage to do / to succeed in doing /
- Prendre une résolution, faire une promesse = To make a promise/ a resolution.
- tenir une résolution, une promesse = to keep a resolution/ I never really end up keeping resolutions/ .

You didn’t feel like starting this year being bitter and resentful. You could have handled this in your own way/ on your own/, but you always want to act too fast / you’re always doing things too fast/ and that’s why you keep failing.

- Avoir envie de = to feel like + V + ing

The bottom line is that she could well harass me out of doing it.

in a word/ long and short of it/
- harceler pour que je fasse = harass me into doing it

Are you doing anything this weekend? What about coming then? You’ll see how big the kids have grown and how well I have done up that “old dump” as you called it mockingly. Come on ! I won’t take “no” for an answer.

- Et si tu venais = What about + ing ?/ How about + ing ? / I suggest you come
- une vieille bicoque = an old shack/ an old dump/

"It is the only cooking which a "true" man will make.
When a man goes volunteer to make this type of cooking, the chain of the following events is then :"

1. The woman goes to the grocer's .
2. The woman prepares the salad, the vegetables and the dessert.
3. The woman prepares the meat for the cooking, the place on the tray with the necessary utensils and brings them to the man who is near the barbecue taking a beer.
4. The man places the meat on the grill.
5. The woman is inside going to lay the table and verify the cooking of vegetables.
6. The woman returns outside to say to her husband that the meat is burning.
7. The man removes the meat off the grill and brings it to the woman.
8. The woman prepares plates and brings them on the table.
9. After the meal, the woman clears the table and does the dishes.
10. The man asks the woman if she appreciated not to cook.
And in front of her annoyed air, he concludes that women are never satisfied.

IV) We're going to write a story together... I will start with the first two sentences and the following Lover of English will write a sequel to my sentences, whatever he or she wants, ( BUT NOT MORE THAN 20 WORDS). You can choose the tone, the type of the story, make it surrealistic, serious, funny, absurd, add characters, etc. You MUST follow what was given to you (correcting it if necessary,) and create from there... The story … and its ending will depend on each of you.

Strolling in the mountains, I saw a dwarf wearing light green clothes. He was carrying skis on his right shoulder… (20 w)
Suddenly, one of his skis slipped down his back, tearing his ski suit. Anyone could see his underwear. (18 w)
He rushed behind a fir tree, but a squirrel was watching him wondering how long the dwarf would stay there ! (20 w)
It was hungry but afraid of climbing into the fir where a fine cone could be a nice midday meal (20 w)
The dwarf saw the squirrel looking at the cone. He flung up one of his skis towards it. (18 w)
The squirrel ran away, frightening a rabbit which jumped into the dwarf's arms, making all the birds fly around. (20 w)
The dwarf went back home with the rabbit thinking of the good 'lapin chasseur' he was going to cook . (19 w)
Hardly had he arrived when the rabbit jumped away and fled into Snow White's cottage. She was cooking carrots ! (20 w)
The rabbit sped three times around the kitchen and disappeared into a cupboard onto a stack of dishes. (18 w)
Meanwhile, our dwarf's wife was yelling at him : "Again ?!! I'm not sewing your pants this time! " Hard day! (20 w) à vous tous et à Maxwell !

V) Pairs in Rhyme: each of these pairs of words is a rhyme for a familiar phrase. Scratch your brains!
(Example: Car and ride => Answer: Far and wide.)

1) prods and bends: ODDS AND ENDS = du bric à brac
2) Draw and hoarder: LAW AND ORDER= l'ordre public
3) Proud and sheer: LOUD AND CLEAR= haut et fort = 3 expressions à retenir.

VI) Four-Fit: Without changing the order of the letters, place the 4-letter words on the dashes to form 8-letter words:
RUDE - LIAR - ACRE - RUIN.
mAniCuRE
bLIzzARd
eRUptIoN
peRsUaDE

Yes, it was a difficult exercice ... CONGRATULATIONS to all of You! I had conjured up THE FORCE and I hope it will be with us again for N° 101...
