Oral/Spaces and Exchanges
Message de thewanderer posté le 09-06-2018 à 11:36:14 (S | E | F)
Bonjour,
je passe bientôt mon oral d'anglais pour le Bac et je me demandais si vous pouviez corriger mes erreurs, s'il vous plaît ?
J'ai choisi la notion Espaces et Échanges,
merci et bonne journée !

The notion « Spaces and Exchanges » deals with the geographical and symbolic areas that all societies occupy and the interactions between men and different societies. This notion is illustrated by three documents, an extract Nighthawks, the movie Night on earth, and a caricature . So, do differences exist between some people in our society ?

The document“Nighthawks” is an extract from “The Flat World”, which refers to globalization, by Thomas L. Friedman. It is a letter written by Bill Brody, an American former radiologist who is now the dean of a medicine university, to Friedman. The narrator explains a new trend in medicine : American radiologists outsource their work to India and to Australia. Since they use teleradiology, they can have their scans read by Indian or Australian doctors when they don’t have enough staff. They resort to outsourcing when it is nighttime in the US (it’s then daytime in India and Australia), that’s why Indian and Australian doctor are called nighthawks. It enable them to have a quicker diagnosis, moreover, doctors don’t have to do night shifts anymore, and then hospital can cut costs and save money. As for Australian and Indian doctors, they also have a fair share of those exchanges. It’s a win-win relation. The narrator insists that it’s only good if every doctor has the same degree. This should lead to the standardization of education. In this text, globalization is shown quite positively since it enables everyone to have a better life. We usually have a negative image of this when rich companies take advantage of poor people in emerging countries and when they lower the living conditions.

The second document is an extract from the movie Night on Earth by Jim Jarmush, in this passage we can see two differents women. One of the women is mature, she has a elegant ans sophistical language, she works at Hollywood and she thinks that everyone would like to be a star and become famous. While the other woman is young, she has a familiar language, she wants become mechanic and not a star, she smoke a lot, her taxi is dirty and cluttered. This extract show us an encounter between two women of differentes societies, one is rich and probably famous while the other is only a taxi driver who wants become a mechanic, this encounter represents a kind of collision, an exchange, between two different worlds that do not rub shoulders with normally.

And the last document is a caricature of United States and Mexico. We can see the USA behind an huge wall and on this wall there is a sign which say « US Borders Keep Out ». There is also a sign of McDonald's and a man at a counter while a mexican walks in front of this man, he seems poor while behind the wall there is wealth. This caricature show us that there are no exhanges between the rich and poor people, it's also a representaion of immigration as of today.

To conclude, in our society, there is differents classes, the rich , the poor, etc… And this differents worlds often avoid encounter each other but the rich do not want to cohabit with the people they deem inferior except if it can bring them benefits.
