Called skimming?
Message de co13 posté le 02-02-2008 à 15:51:03 (S | E | F)

Bonjour,
Dans un texte expliquant comment procéder pour traduire un texte d'anglais je ne comprends pas les mots " called skimming" .
Voici la phrase : First you read the title and headings, if there are any. From this you can deduce the contents of the text. This is called skimming and in your own language this is where you decide whether the subject interests you enough to continue reading.
Merci d'avance a tous ceux qui pourront m'aider

Traduction

Hello col 13,
to skim means effleurer,écumer, écrèmer.
so, I think this means that by only reading the title, you already have an idea of what the novel will speak about and know if you will like it or not.

Hello,
Skim quand on parle du lait = écrémer.
Ici dans le contexte skim = parcourir, lire en diagonale.
See you

SKIMMING is a technique used in reading, it means glancing rapidly through a text to determine its gist or GENERAL idea of its contents

To help you understand this concept I present the example questions that can be answered by employing this technique:

1. (when students are supplied with a text and several titles) which title fits the text best?
2. (when SS are supplied with a text and a list of topics) which topics are dealt with in this text)

There is also a technique called SCANNING, it means glancing rapidly through a text either to search for a SPECIFIC piece of information (eg a name, a date)or to get an initial impression of whether the text is suitable for a given purpose (for example you scan the index in a book to see whether the concept you need is being talked about in this book)

the example questions that can be answered by employing this technique:
1. Look at page 6 and find out when JFK died
2. (using the index) on what page is topic X mentioned?
