At the base of the mountain.

Bonjour,doggie,
Si l'on dit "top of the mountain", pourquoi ne dirait -on pas the " bottom" ?

In fact, we can say "the foot of the mountain"! Of course the precise word used will depend on the context.

Bonjour.
pied = foot
« The foot of » is the lowest part of something such as a mountain, page, tree, or set of stairs, or the end of a bed where your feet go.
A stunningly beautiful lake at the foot of the mountain.
She dreamed she saw someone standing at the foot of her bed.

I would say "foot" is best, but again it depends on the context.
"Bottom" is probably more precise; it is the exact "ring" that constitutes the lowest part of the mountain. The "foot" of the mountain can be a larger area or a region. For example, the area where I live is called "the Piedmont" because it is at the foot of the Blue Ridge mountains.
