A/Can i see you at 10.00 tomorrow morning ?
B/ Sorry, I'll be attending a meeting then.
A/what about 11.00?
B/That's OK . The meeting will have finished by then.
Quelle est la différence entre then and by then ?

= d'ici là

Ce qu'il faut comprendre, en fait, c'est que la préposition "by", quand elle est utilisée devant une expression temporelle, signifie: à partir de maintenant jusqu'au moment mentionné par cette même expression, ce dernier étant la dernière limite.
Un exemple:
-I'd like to have this file corrected by tomorrow! ce qui signifie que je le veux bien avant, si le travail est terminé, mais en tout cas, demain est la dernière limite..
