Rather than /would rather

I would rather you did / do / you to do ?
De plus, tous les verbes à postpositions sont-ils suivis d'un verbe en -ing ou bien aucune généralité n'est possible?
Merci de votre attention et désolé si ces questions ont déjà été posées mais je viens de m'inscrire et n'ai pas encore parfaitement intégré les fonctions de recherche

Hello,

Vous confondez l'adverbe 'rather' avec la locution verbale 'would rather'.

Adverbe:
He has bought a flat rather than a house
She went swimming rather than going shopping

Locution:
I would rather stay in London than in Paris
I'd rather have a shower than a bath

Regards.

D'accord mais je suis tombé dans un qcm de concours sur une phrase ou rather than était suivi d'une base verbale.
La phrase était la suivante:
Rather than downsize their workforce, the company decided to reduce the wages of all their employees. Serait-ce une coquille ou bien s'agit-t-il d'un cas particulier?

Hello,

La phrase est correcte mais il s'agit là de l'adverbe, qui n'est pas conjugué.

Désolé mais mon cerveau doit être fatigué, je n'ai pas vraiment saisi la nuance .

Bonsoir,

Rather than downsize their workforce, the company decided to reduce the wages of all their employees.

Selon moi, c'est plus facile de comprendre si l'on reformule cette phrase comme suit:

The company would rather (decide to) reduce the wages of all their employees than downsize their workforce.

Je crois...

D'après un autre forum (anglais), on utilise plus couramment la forme 'rather than + BV' mais des exceptions subsistent, notamment dans les cas où la première partie de phrase utilise un verbe en -ing, comme l'exemple de Lucile, ou encore:
(1) I prefer walking rather than driving.
(2) He was fined for driving recklessly rather than (just for) speeding.
(3) Though she claims to be a bookwarm, I always see her listening to music rather than reading books.
