Has come to mean
Message de pateve posté le 26-11-2011 à 23:01:45 (S | E | F)
Bonjour,

j'aimerais conprendre le sens d'une phrase. It has come to mean. J'ai mis l'ensemble du paragraphe pour vous mettre dans le contexte.

"We see this sign on drug stores and whenever we visit a doctor to get an order for medicine. It also appears on bottles of pills and other medicines.
The sign is formed by a line across the right foot of the letter "R." It represents the word "prescription." It has come to mean "take this medicine."

Pourquoi l'auteur n'aurait pas juste écrit It means take this medicine. Pourquoi avoir ajouté "Has come to"?
Merci pour votre aide.
Patrick

Hello,
"It has come to mean" means:
"The meaning eventually became:prescription.
"Over the years, little by little, this R eventually ended up meaning prescription.
This is the English only section but the French would say: "ça a fini par signifier ordonnance".
