Even if /even though
Message from mohammad51 posted on 16-07-2018 at 10:10:29 (D | E | F)
Hello
Please could anyone confirm this information I lastly noticed online?
even if, they said it is used with future while even though is used with past.
examples:
1- .........I invited her,she didn't come.
even though
even if
According to what said , the correct answer is ( even though, not even if )

2- .........you invite her, she will not com.
even though
even if
the correct answer is ( even if, not even though ) saying here future not past.

Thanks for any reply.

Hi,
Even if, with "if" is used with conditional statements to emphasize a situation that will remain the same no matter what happens. Of course it follows conditional rules. With past tense it refers to a hypothetical or unreal situation.
Example: even if I bought her the ticket, she wouldn't come.
Even if and even though have the same meaning and could be used in past and future contexts too.
Examples:
I will help her even though you refuse that.
I will help her even if you refuse that.

With past tense there is a difference to consider:
"Even though I invited her, she didn't come" : you really invited her and as response she didn't come.
With "even if" the phrase should change in structure but with a change in context:
"Even if I invited her, she wouldn't come" : this is a hypothetical situation, you didn't really invite her and we are not a 100% sure she won't come.
